Tom Edwards owned and operated the Whitetail Ranch from 1939 to 1969, making WTR Outfitters the oldest outfitting business to operate in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. He blazed the trail for outfitting in the area and his memory is kept alive on Forest Service signs and local sites and trails.
Jack and Karen Hooker ran the business for over 40 years. Karen, a native of Ovando, was the organizer, backcountry cook, and worked behind the scenes to keep the business running smoothly. In Jack you'll find one of the few remaining cowboys of the West, an expert horse trainer and consummate backcountry guide.
Mike and Megan Kmon purchased WTR Outfitters in 2010 and ran it for a year and a half before selling to Tom and Melanie Parker before selling to Ted And Lynne Murphy.
Ted and Lynne bring decades of experience to WTR Outfitters. Ted's Grandfather Joe started outfitting in 1910. He is one of the first men who blazed trails into some of the most scenic back country in all of Montana making the Murphy name synonymous with outfitting in the Bob Marshall Wilderness.
Ted and Lynne are each accomplished outdoors persons with an infectious enthusiasm for the outdoors. They have five children , Laurie, Jenny, Amy, Tommy, and
Mattie in whom they work to instill a strong work ethic and a love for land , animals, and people
